Ujjain is also known as the temple town of Madhya Pradesh, the city is home to more than 100 temples and numerous pilgrimage sites of different eras. The biggest attraction among the temples of Ujjain is the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. It is one of the 12 jyotirlingas, where Bhasma aarti is a daily ritual - this is what Ujjain is famous for. Ujjain is also renowned for hosting one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, Simhastha (Kumbh Mela), which occurs every 12 years on the banks of the Shipra River.
Arrive hotel and check in at the hotel (Early check in subject to the room’s availability). Proceed to visit Ujjain local city tour as under:
Mahakaleshwar Temple: One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, this temple is a major pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Bhasam Aarti here is particularly famous.
Harsiddhi Temple: A significant Shakti Peeth that attracts many devotees. It is famous among the devotees for its unique aarti ceremony involving oil lamps. Two young men ascend 30-foot pillars and light 500 diyas on each pillar in a circular pattern. It happens daily in the evening.
Mahakal Lok Corridor: It is also one of the famous tourist attractions in Ujjain. The length of the Corridor is more than 900 meters. It is surrounded by the old Rudrasagar Lake. Once you enter the corridor, you will see 108 pillars, around 200 statues related to Hindu mythology, and frescos that display stories of Shiva.
Shipra river ghat: Ujjain hosts the Kumbh Mela every 12 years, attracting millions of pilgrims who come to bathe in the holy waters of the Shipra River.
Sandipani Ashram: Associated with the childhood of Lord Krishna, this ashram is a serene spot for visitors.
